Why I wrote this guide
A welcome from Christy

My name is Christy Louise Stapleton. I’m a mother of two daughters, and my experience with the child protection system is personal. I have lived through separation from my children and the journey of bringing them home.
I wrote this guide because I remember how much there was to understand at a time when it was difficult to think clearly. The questions, meetings, paperwork and uncertainty can feel overwhelming when all you want is to know that your children are safe and what you need to do next.
This is the guide I wish someone had put in my hands at the beginning: clear information, practical steps and space to take a breath. It brings together lived experience and researched information to help parents ask questions, keep records, find support and make informed decisions during those first 72 hours.
Every family’s circumstances are different. My experience cannot speak for everyone, but it has given me a reason to turn what I have learned into something useful for others.
I want parents reading this to feel less alone, better prepared and more confident to speak for themselves and their children. You deserve to understand what is happening and to have your voice heard.
